The tarot, like all great works of art, is a mirror that reflects our humanity back at us. In the right hands, it is a tool for self-reflection, healing, and the cultivation of hope.
How to Read the Tarot: 5 Simple Steps for Beginners
1.
Get Quiet
Find a quiet place where you can be alone. Get comfortable and notice your breathing. Take a moment to determine the question you’d like to ask.
2.
Shuffle & Select
Use a flat surface to shuffle your deck. When you’re done shuffling, ask your question aloud, or write it down. Then, select your cards.
3.
Observe
After choosing your cards, observe your reactions. Take a moment to release any fear, and reconnect with your breath. Look closely at the images.
4.
Write It Down
As you look at the cards, write down what you see. Notice each card in succession. Do they tell a story? What messages do they seem to convey?
5.
Reflect
Finally, reflect on what you’ve written. What feels relevant, and what doesn’t? Has your question been answered? Sit with it for awhile.
